The University of Pretoria has a reputation for its commitment to sports development through the programmes of its High Performance Centre and TuksSport, and is similarly passionate about elevating sports administration in South Africa. Titans Cricket makes a significant contribution to socio-economic success in the City of Tshwane. It is imperative, therefore, for its managers and administrators to be highly skilled in order to run the organisation efficiently and effectively with a view to improving the success of the enterprise from both an economic and a sporting point of view. Titans Cricket will also benefit from its relationship with the University of Pretoria in terms of its expertise in sport science.
Prof Cheryl de la Rey, Vice-Chancellor and Principal of the University of Pretoria, is delighted by the agreement between the University of Pretoria and Titans Cricket. She said that such a partnership is of mutual benefit to the parties involved and that it is possible to do more by working together. ‘We are looking forward to this relationship with Titans Cricket, which will not only benefit the two institutions, but will also be profitable to the development of cricket and, ultimately, the economy of the City of Tshwane,’ she said.
Jacques Faul, CEO of Titans Cricket, said: ‘In pursuit of our values, where we strive to be a world-class cricket organisation, we have to up-skill our staff. In order to achieve our goal, we approached the University of Pretoria.’
‘Sports organisations have to do things better and more scientifically. We are privileged to be able to form a partnership with one of the top universities in the world,’ continued Faul.
The University will benefit from the agreement by gaining access to players, coaches and managers of cricket to further their development in all aspects of sport.
