The UP Arts Tuks Camerata, student choir of the University of Pretoria, will hold their first concert for 2010 on Saturday 17 April 2010. This is the weekend just after the April recess, giving students and music lovers the opportunity to become inspired for the term ahead.
This promises to be an entertaining evening with a repertoire containing a wide variety of music including works from Indonesia (Jangar arranged by Budi Susanto Yohanes) and Lithuania (Neišeik Saulala - Vytautas Miškinis). This year is a very exciting one for the country as well as one for the choir for they are preparing for a overseas Advent choir tour in November and December, travelling to Austria, Switzerland and Poland and participating in the International Festival of Advent and Christmas Music competition in Bratislava, Slovakia.
The choir is conducted by the award-winning conductor Christo Burger from 2009.
The Tuks Camerata specialises in Western choir music and this will be represented by music from composers such as Martin Lauridsen, Alberto Grau and the South African composer Chris Lamprecht.
Also performing the evening is the St Mary’s Singers from the St Mary’s DiocesanSchool for Girls, also under the leadership of Christo Burger. They will be performing a stirring program including Dulcis Christe by Grancini and Imagine by John Lennon arranged by Michael Neaum.
Tickets will be available at the door. For more information contact the Choir Manager Pamela Oosthuizen at 012 420-5470 or [email protected].
