The ancient Egyptians have left us a rich Legacy of their art. This art was not ‘art for art’s sake’, but mainly religious. As such, a very important component of this art was symbol and magic. Through symbolism, the ancient Egyptians tried to express their understanding concerning life and death and the place and function of the gods and man in the universe, and through magic they hoped to transform reality into an ideal state, especially with a view to the afterlife.
