The work of “Duo Siqueira Lima” is raising the attention of musicians and critics all over the world. Drinking directly from the Latin American source, Cecilia and Fernando have been playing together since 2002 and they are outlined specially for the originality stamped on the selection of their repertory and the way of executing it.
Born in Paysandú (Uruguay), Cecilia possesses a strong tradition of the Uruguayan folklore, which joins the folk and regional tradition of the “mineiro” (who is born in Minas Gerais, Brazil) Fernando.
Their first meeting was pinpointed by a historical event in their careers. They made acquaintance with each other in an international guitar competition in Caxias do Sul-RS (Brazil) in 2001. Among all the participants who came from different countries, Cecilia and Fernando turned out to be winners sharing the first prize. This event was of vital importance for their beginning of an international career as a duo.
In 2002 while they were still working as soloists, they became interested in recording some pieces together and so they released the CD “Todo ConCorda” playing both as a duo and as soloists. From the beginning the couple gathered many favorable reviews and counted on the orientation of the Brazilian professor Henrique Pinto.
The official name:
“Duo Siqueira Lima” was consolidated after recording their CD “Lado a Lado” in 2006. This CD shows that the principal trend of the duo is the Brazilian music. On it, they presented a new and innovative repertoire, passing across variety of top Brazilian composers. Since then, they have performed around the world, being acclaimed as one of the musical revelations of their generation.
Their international career spreads across Europe, from Spain to Russia, from Ireland to Ukraine. The European touring includes performances at important theatres and festivals such as:
“Palace Kongresowa” (Warsaw- Poland), “International Musical Festival” (Kaluga- Russia), “Jazz Festival” (Saint Petersburg- Russia), “Festival de Guitare de Lausanne” ( Lausanne-Switzerland), Festival “ Guitares du Monde” (Perpignan-France), “ National Concert Hall” and “Festival of World Cultures” (Dublin- Ireland), “Palazzina Liberty” (Milan- Italy), “Tchaikovsky Hall” (Gomel- Byelorussia), “Esterhaze” Castel (Fertod- Hungary), among others.
In 2009 in the tribute to 50 years of Heitor-Villa Lobo’s death, they played as soloists with the “Metropolitan Orchestra of Sao Paulo”. In the same year they also presented master classes of technique, interpretation and arrangement in the University of Florida, at the Brazilian Music Institute, in Gainesville (Florida-EUA).
