“Our win against Maties was the cherry on top and means we can now claim to be the best South African cricket club. In a single season (2011/2012) we have won USSA (in December), after which we successfully defended our NCU titles (Premier League and T20 Knock-out Trophy) earlier this year. By taking honours at the National Club Championships we concluded a remarkable success story,” added De Bruyn.
“The best thing about our performance at the Club Championships was that we were unbeaten after a very tough draw (winning all six matches) and that it was Maties that we thrashed in the final. The result of the final in the 2012 Varsity Cup Competition is still fresh in the mind and has made our victory against our arch-rivals even more special. How nice it was to beat them twice in less than a month and that in different sports codes!”
De Bruyn said that he has been humbled by Assupol Tuks 1’s amazing performance list over the past two seasons.
“We have really grown into a formidable unit with an unwavering winning culture – the result of a combined effort by both the players and team management. It is thanks to every individual’s unique contribution that we can look back on statistics such as not losing one of our last 50 Premier League matches, as well as going through two seasons of T20 Knock-out Trophy cricket as the only unbeaten side,” De Bruyn added.
• This success on the cricket field coincided with TuksFootball’s flag-bearer, AmaTuks, continuing their strong run in the NFD. Their 2-1 win against Vasco keeps AmaTuks at the top of the log and within reach of much sought-after PSL status.
• On the athletics scene, Tuks’ ladies triumphed at the USSA Championships in Johannesburg. TuksAthletics finished third over-all.
