An event attended by Prof Roelf Visser, Director of Residence Affairs, Prof Nick Grove, Registrar of UP and Mr Rian Visser, architect and designer of the renovated Xayata, reflected the renewal and rejuvenation of Xayata and its residents.
Residence Committee members and the house parents guided the guests on a tour of the newly renovated houses.
The ceremony reached its climax by dusk, when the chairman of the residence, Mr Lefanyana Masweneng, delivered a sincere speech on the evolution of Xayata and shared the remarkable history of the house with those attending.
Speeches by the Director, Prof Roelf Visser, and the designer, Mr Rian Visser, emphasised the support that the University has provided to Xayata, and residents expressed their satisfaction with and appreciation of what the University has achieved.
The occasion was attended by a few of those people who had resided in Xayata in its early days, who were the same people that ensured that the transformation was completed.
Our youthful house parents were present and used the opportunity to highlight the primary focus of the residence: academic excellence and the enhancement of the leadership potential that Xayata residents possess
.
The ceremony ended on a high note with refreshments being served while excited residents left their mark by making their handprints and their signatures on one of the walls in the recreational hall.
It was a delightful day that all those residing in Xayata will remember with pride.
