No fool in this Freddie

“I have no illusions about the tremendous challenges awaiting me as new head coach. My attitude is life and sport is, however, that no challenge is ever too big. I thrive on challenges because I see them as unique opportunities to test myself to the limit,” said Freddie in an interview with TuksSport.
Coaching the cream of TuksRugby is not new to Freddie. Last year he was Marinus’ back-line coach and this assures much needed continuity.
“With every new head coach come new ideas, but I do not intend making radical changes to the basic game plan that made Tukkies so successful in the past two seasons. There will be small adaptations, like for instance playing more in a structure without inhibiting the individual flair and instinct of the players too much”.
Freddie strongly believes that every player should trust his instincts enough to “seize the opportunity when is it there for the taking. There is, however, an important condition if and when you take a change: do not hold back.”
Freddie has three major goals for the 2009 season. The first is to qualify for the Varsity Cup play-offs and at least reach the final this time. The second is to remain the powerhouse of club rugby in Blue Bulls country.
“Our third objective is honours at the national club championships, especially because it takes place in Pretoria this year,” stated Freddie.
