Unbeaten Tuks cling to top spot

Posted on February 16, 2009

It never looked like Tuks could lose the match as they were by far the more organized team. Tuks clinched victory in seven minutes in the very early stages of the game after a three try blitzkrieg.
Tuks led 21-0 after only 12 minutes.
Tuks captain, Johan de Bruin said in the post-match interview his team had to work hard for victory because they did not always keep to the game plan and lost the initiative on numerous occasions through ill discipline.
Another problem was poor handling at critical times.
Referee Francois Veldsman penalized Tuks 19 times, but saw fit to award only five penalties against TUT. Veldsman also yellow carded both Tuks’ props for alleged repeated transgressions at the breakdowns.
No 8 Willie Nel was named man of the match, but this award could just as well have gone to centre Franco Booysen.
Tuks’ next game is on Monday, February 23 at LC de Villiers Stadium against UCT. Ikeys had little trouble in beating UJ 32-12.
In one of the other matches played on Monday, Maties stayed unbeaten with their 26-5 win against Shimlas in Bloemfontein. Pukke was too strong for NMMU (41-13).
Scorers:
TUKS: Tries: Etienne Breytenbach (loose head prop), Franco Booysen (centre), Johan Jackson (fullback), Peet Vorster (tight head prop), Aaron Denenga (left wing), Luvoyo Mhlobiso (right wing), Gerhard van der Merwe (centre). Conversions: Piet-Piet Swart (fly half, 3), Chandre Boshoff, Christiaan van den Berg.
TUT: Penalty goals: Adilio Coutiers (fly half, 3).
