Maroela makes clean sweep

Posted on February 18, 2009

For the third year running, Maroela’s first team had the last say –this time against Sonop (9-6).
In the u.20 final Maroela beat Mopanie 18-3.
The first team final was a tactical affair with goal kicking making the difference in the end.
Adriaan Bornman (centre) was his team’s big hero by succeeding with three penalty goals.
For Sonop flyhalf Salwyn Schutze scored all the points with a penalty and drop goal.
In the u.21 final there was nothing in it at halftime (Maroela led 3-0), but two late tries by centre Donovan van Wyk left Mopanie grounded.
Stanley Twiname, son of the former Northern Transvaal and Stellaland scrumhalf Donovan Twiname, converted one try and also slotted home two penalties.
Erasmus Meyer, Boekenhout’s fly half, scored his team’s only points through a penalty goal.
