“Last year it was to our big advantage when we used two white cards against Maties in the final, but even that won’t sway me in my persuasion. I really hope that the Varsity Cup board will rethink their position on the white card,” said Fleck.
Board chairman Francois Pienaar suggested in a newspaper article on Sunday that the implementation of the white card could be one of the initiatives to make the competition even more exciting and different.
Questioned on the Varsity Cup itself Fleck said it has done wonders for the promotion of rugby at university level.
“Mondays have become Varsity Cup days because of the exciting and unpredictable nature of the competition. Young and old are glued to their TV sets. It is so good to see traditional student rugby coming to the fore again. We (Ikeys) love playing running rugby, so we feel very much at home in the Varsity Cup competition,” added Fleck.
