Dismal defence Tuks

Posted on March 23, 2009

To put Maties’ complete domination into perspective, one only has to look at the seven tries the home side scored to the one of the visitors.

Tuks never looked like winning the game. The writing was already on the wall at halftime (24-14).

Tuks were outplayed up front, especially at the breakdowns where Maties turned over possession with such ease and regularity as if it was taking candy from a kid.

Tuks’ half hearted defence was however the low point of a very uninspiring performance, which also said a lot of the players’ commitment, or lack thereof.

Tuks captain Johan de Bruin conceded in the post match interview that his team paid the prize for making too many basic mistakes. That summed up 80 minutes of agony and utter disappointment for Tuks and their supporters.

Tuks’ only try was scored by scrumhalf Christiaan van den Berg. Mauritz Boshoff (fly half) contributed six points with two penalty goals, whilst winger Clayton Blommetjies succeeded with the only drop goal of the match.

In the other semi-final Pukke beat UCT in Cape Town.
