Tuks robbed of second CC century

Posted on June 22, 2009

One has to agree that the match was little short of a joke, but even so referees should not be the ones to put an early end to a badly balanced first league fixture. No provincial match would ever be stopped because of a big score or the loosing side’s coming short of replacements.

Tuks scored 15 tries and could have amassed more points in the time allowed if their finishing and goal kicking were better.

In such a one sided affair it is always difficult to name players who really outshone, but fullback Fanie Booysen (he scored four tries), scrumhalf Willoughby Bloem, No 8 Coenraad Pieterse, lock Erich van der Westhuizen and replacement lock Quinton Skewers still need special mention for their inspiring performances.

It was also a very special occasion for flanker Gert Lubbe, and not because of the two tries he scored. It was Gert’s 50th match for Tuks I.

Tuks I’s next fixture is on 10 July against TUT.

• Tuks’ scorers were:

Tries: Fanie Booysen (4), Donnovan Marais (2), Bennie Bester (2), Pieter Gothan (2), Gert Lubbe – 50 ste wedstryd (2), Willoughby Bloem, Coenraad Pieterse, Erich van der Westhuizen. Conversions: Shaun Davids (6), Fanie Booysen (2).

• Other Tuks results:

Carlton III: Tuks-Pumas 24, Eersterust 19; Carlton u.21A: Tuks Jongspan 40, Tuks A 0; Carlton u.19A: Tuks A 40, Tuks Fezelas 24.
