Tuks ended the 2010 competition in sixth place with 14 points, their worst performance in the three year history of Varsity Cup rugby. They only won two of their seven matches (TUT and NMMU), lost four (Pukke, Maties, Shimlas and Ikeys) and drew one (UJ).
In 2008 and 2009 Tuks ended fourth and lost to Maties in the semi-finals on both occassions.
Team manager, Jannie Robberste said Tuks put up a brave fight against Ikeys and were still in with a sporting chance at halftime when they were only trailing 12-20.
"We played against the strong wind in the first half and there was the reasonable expectation that we would turn the tables in the last 40 minutes once we had the the elements in our favour. It was, unfortunately not be be as they scored two quick tries in the second half which put the result beyond any doubt," said Jannie.
He said Tuks did not put the University to shame "as we were never humiliated. At times we played very good rugby, but as so often this season small mistakes cost us dear. We scored four tries, not a small feat against the team that ended second on the log".
Tuks' tries were scored by Shaun Davids, Oswin Mentoor, Franco Mostert and Stanley Twiname. Gertjie Smith succeeded with two conversions.
