Tuks sack rugby captain

Posted on March 23, 2010

“We took disciplinary action against four players who did not pitch for training on Monday. Shaun and Dan Nichols had permission to take part in a coaching clinic in Zimbabwe, but the clear understanding was that they will be back for the first training session of the 2010 Carlton Cup Competition. They did let us know before training that they had transport problems and will therefore not attend, but even so I have to play by one set of rules. Tiaan Nel and Clayton Blommetjies were also absent at Monday’s training and as such they were not considered as well,” said Tuks head coach, Freddie Grobler.

He made it very clear “that I will not tolerate any ill discipline and will only field players who still have the passion and hunger to represent Tuks”.

Freddie will only later name his Carlton League captain. Corné Fourie will be the stand in captain on Wednesday.

Tuks’ team is:

Justin van Staden; Dirk Dippenaar, Gertjie Smith, Johan Booysen, Pieter Peens; Stanley Twiname, Ettien Greeff; Louis van Biljon, Francois van Wyk, Robboe Coetzee, Franco Mostert, Joe Walters, Hein Viljoen, Chris Crous, Corné Fourie (c). REPLACEMENTS: Dawie Kemp, Peet Vorster, Toko Mashele, Gert Lubbe, Wesleigh Marais, An Other, Bennie Bester.
