Tuks 1 run in seven Carlton Cup tries in 48-5 win

Posted on April 18, 2010

All the tries were scored by backline players, giving a clear indication of the game plan Tuks 1’s new coaching pair of Blikkies Groenewald and Nollis Marais will want to take root.

Tuks already made sure of their second win of the season in the first 40 minutes by building up a substantial 27-0 lead at half time.

Tuks 1’s tries were scored by left wing WJ Bell (3), right wing Dirk Dippenaar (2) and outside centre Gertjie Smith (2). Gertjie also slotted home a conversion, whilst fly half Stanley Twiname added the rest of the points with four conversions and a penalty.

In the other Carlton Cup matches played on 17 April, Centurion scored the biggest win by beating Silver Valke 62-14. TUT had the better of Police (21-14), whilst Harlequins had to work hard to beat Naka Bulle 39-34.

Centurion is still heading the log as it has a better point difference than Tuks 1 (89 to 73). Both have full points (10) after two matches.

• Tuks’ other teams in action in Brits also won: Tuks-Fezelas 52-0 (2nd league), Tuks-Pumas 33-20 (3rd league) and Tuks Jongspan 95-0 (u.21 League).
