Tuks stronger, but still missing key players

Posted on July 29, 2010

If everything goes to plan, Johan will be the only player not to recover in time in order to be considered for the 22 that will represent Tuks 1 in the Carlton Cup semi-finals on August 7.

There are a total of nine changes to the line-up that started against TUT. In the backline Boeboes Coetzee (fullback), John-Wessel Bell (left wing), Gertjie Smith (inside centre) and Hendrik Blignaut (scrumhalf) have all recovered from illness or injury to make a welcome return.

At fly half Hanno Botha takes over from the injured Renier, who scored 25 points with the boot against TUT. With Boeboes back there will however be no worries about the place kicking duties as he has already scored 100 points in the 2010 competition.

The changes up front are at flank (Willie Nel for Jacques), lock (Joe Walter for the injured Peet) and in the front row where there is a double tactical swop. Chris Crous (hooker) and Ettienne Breytenbach (loose head prop) make way for Henri Bantjes and Corne Fourie respectively.

The Tuks 1 team is:

15 Boeboes Coetzee; 14 Boon Kotzee, 13 Gerhard van der Merwe, 12 Gertjie Smith, 11 John-Wessel Bell; 10 Hanno Botha, 9 Hendrik Blignaut; 8 Marius Weber (c), 7 Willie Nel, 6 Louis van Biljon, 5 Franco Mostert, 4 Joe Walters, 3 Gert Andries van der Merwe, 2 Henri Bantjies, 1 Corne Fourie. REPLACEMENTS: 16 Chris Crous, 17 Ettienne Breytenbach, 18 Berend Botha, 19 Mattheus du Plooy, 20 Poerie van Rooyen, 21 Dewald Pieters, 22 Shaun Davids.
