TuksRugby : Tuks 1 loses to Ikeys, but still makes play-offs

Posted on March 21, 2011

UJ outplayed Maties 39-19 in arguably the biggest surprise yet in the 2011 competition.

Tuks ended fourth on the log with 22 points, one behind Shimlas and Ikeys (both on 23) and five behind first placed UJ (27).

Tuks will now play UJ next Monday (28 March) in Johannesburg on the same field where they ended UJ’s undefeated run on 7 March in the group phase of the competition.

Tuks will kick themselves for losing to Ikeys as they had more than enough chances to clinch victory. In the end they paid dearly for bad finishing, too many unforced errors, poor ball retention, below average goal kicking and the many penalties they conceded.

Tuks’ lack of discipline should however be judged against a shameful performance by referee Rasta, who was neither fair nor just in the execution of his duty.

The fact that Rasta allowed Ikeys to score their winning try from a preceding forward pass – blatant as they come – highlighted 80 minutes of  inconsistent refereeing.
