TuksRugby : UJ overwhelming semi-final favourites

Posted on March 24, 2011

“We, on the other hand, will be the underdogs as we have suffered three defeats to their one. The fact that we were the only team to beat them in the group phase of the competition will not be to our advantage. In fact, in will rather be a hindrance as they will leave nothing to chance this time. They will be as battle ready as can be and not underestimate us as may have been the case when we crossed swords on 7 March,” added Marais.

“One should also keep in mind that they will on a high after the successes at the Green Mile and in Stellenbosch. The emphatic wins against Ikeys and Maties would have done wonders for their confidence and momentum. We are coming straight from a very disappointing performance against Ikeys and have not managed to make consistency an ally.”

The fact that Tuks managed to make it the last four despite losing to Ikeys has given them a new lease of life.

“No matter how we qualified for the play-offs, fact remains that we deserve to have another bite at the championship apple and will do everything humanly possible to make the most of this opportunity. Semi-finals are after all made for upsets,” said Marais.
