Tuks Women dazzle the Mamelodi crowd

Posted on August 16, 2010

“The organizers ensure that the long weekend is filled with football action which is good for the development of the game within the women’s sphere” said Pearl Mosoane, TuksFootball’s Women Coordinator.

Tuks lost 4 – 2 in the finals of the PAHA Women’s Day celebration. They faced their Gauteng rivals, Palace Falcons. Despite their defeat every player experienced the worth of being a Tukkie.

Head Coach, Sello Mokoena felt that his team was just too jittery thus losing confidence in themselves. The big names in the Falcons line-up were very intimidating.

“They used the advantage of having so many more big names to the full, but I was impressed with the way Tuks defended,” said Mokoena.

Nonhlanhla Phalama gave the opponents some of their own medicine by scoring the equalising goal minutes after Falcons opened the score. The teams were still head to head at the break.

Veli Madau stunned Falcons by scoring the opening goal of the second half, giving Tuks a 2-1 lead.

This was like waving a red flag in front of Falcons. They retaliated without mercy, scoring three unanswered goals.

Tuks captain, Mukondeleli ‘Shakes’ Mulaudzi, was outstanding and named Goalkeeper of the Tournament. It was therefore very unfortunate that she injured her knee after seeing off a Falcons’ attempt at goal.

Tuks came home with a silver medal and a R5000 cash prize.

Though Tuks went through the tournament missing key players like Simphiwe Dludlu, Joanner Miller, and Keneilwe Mathibela, they showed a lot of guts, spirit and character.

The tournament was attended by teams such as Bloemfontein Celtics, Maindies, the Limpopo Sasol League champions, Mamelodi Sundowns ladies, Moroka Swallows, Detroit Ladies, the Mpumalanga Sasol League champions and Palace Super Falcons, the current National Sasol League Champions.
