Never mind the result, it will be a Tuks champion!

A short summary of the 2 matches is:

Semi-final 1: Assupol Tuks 1 v. PHSOB 1 (Hofmeyr Oval)

PHSOB 1 won the toss and decided to bat first. Leon Nel immediately dealt the first blow when he removed both openers in consecutive overs. PHSOB 1 had a 50 run partnership for the 3rd wicket but the first and second change bowlers for Tuks 1 were right on the money and wickets fell at a regular interval.

Tuks 1’s spin twins, Eden Links and Graeme van Buuren, bowled brilliantly and restricted the PHSOB 1 batsmen. All in all this was a near perfect performance from our bowlers backed up by quality fielding.

PHSOB 1 was all out for 146 in 43.1 overs.

Bowling figures (Assupol Tuks 1): L. Nel – 6 overs, 25 runs, 2 wickets; T. Masekela – 6 overs, 23 runs, 2 wickets; D. Pretorius – 8.1 overs, 29 runs, 2 wickets; E. Links – 9 overs, 25 runs, 2 wickets; G. van Buuren – 8 overs, 20 runs, 1 wicket.

Assupol Tuks 1 got of to a flyer with both opening batters, Shaun Liebisch and Francois Le Clus, taking the attack to the PHSOB 1 bowlers. Liebisch reached the half century mark from just 43 balls with 9 boundaries. Assupol Tuks 1 reached the required target in the 21st over with 2 wickets down.

Batting scores (Assupol Tuks 1): S. Liebisch – 79*, 61 balls, 15 x 4’s; F. Le Clus – 16, 22 balls, 2 x 4’s; D. Pretorius – 30, 17 balls, 6 x 4’s; L. Nel – 17*, 19 balls, 3 x 4’s.

Semi-final 2: Assupol Tuks 2 vs TUT 1 (TUT Oval)

Assupol Tuks 2 played against TUT 1 at TUT Oval in the second of the NCU 45 Over knock out competition, semi finals on Sunday 21 February 2010. Tuks 2 won the toss and elected to bat first.

After 2 early wickets there was a good 3rd wickets partnership of 53 runs between Ralf Schulz and Heinrich Klaasen. None of the Assupol Tuks 2 batters went on to make a big score but everyone chipped in to get a very competitive total of 285/10 in 43 overs.

Batting scores (Assupol Tuks 2): R. Schulz – 64 runs, 50 balls, 7 x 4’s, 1 x 6’s; H. Klaasen – 51 runs, 42 balls, 5 x 4’s, 1 x6’s; PJ Moore – 40 runs, 36 balls, 2 x 4’s, 1 x 6’s.

The bowling was absolutely brilliant with Gerhard Linde picking up 6 wickets for 38 runs in 9 overs. TUT never got any partnerships going as the wickets fell regurarly. G. Linde was supported well by first change bowler D. Stanley who ended with match figures of 7 overs, 33 runs, 3 wickets. TUT 1 was eventually bowled out for 116 runs.
