Gold for speedster Nico in 50 freestyle

Posted on March 16, 2010

The TuksSport High School matriculant was very excited about his performance!

Later on in the evening fellow TuksSport High School pupil Natasha De Vos was looking for her 5th Gold of the meet in the 50m backstroke, an event that is not her main, as she is usually a middle distance event specialist.

Unfortunately, she slipped on the wall on the start, basically starting from a push off coming up a body length behind the other girls, where TuksSwimming team mates Amy Peens & Fabienne Marsay were also competing. Showing unbelievable speed, Natasha chased down the other swimmers to narrowly touch second, behind team mate Peens. This was a remarakble swim by both girls.

With the speed and performances so far by De Vos, we look forward to her main event today, the 200 backstroke, where she will look to qualify for the Youth Olympics later in the year.

Other notable swims last night were by Marlies Ross winning the 200IM event, girls 12 & under. This added to her collection of 4 silver already achieved at this meet.

New TuksSwimming Academy member Lizani Bester, still swimming for her old club cruised to a gold in the 200IM event, girls 13, which adds to the other 4 medals ready achieved so far.

As the meet draws to a close today, we will look to pur swimmers to dig deep, still swim best times & finish strong.
