40 Tuks swimmers gear up for medal feast at SA National Championships

Posted on April 11, 2010

This year’s format has changed slightly with the introduction of a youth nationals format running concurrently to the traditional senior nationals format.

The Tuks swimmers competing under their provincial body of Northern Tigers Swimming (NTS) will be looking to finish off the 2009/2010 swimming season with top performances in all of there events.

The names of old stalwart Roland Schoeman, looking to once again qualify for the Commonwealth Games, Gregory Widmer (Swiss National), Natasha De Vos (up & coming young swimming sensation who recently qualified for the Youth Olympics later this year), long serving speed queen Karin Prinsloo, strong junior males swimmers in Dirk Lambrechts, Pierre Keune & Jurie Wilken, last year sprint fianalist Jason Lawson (who last year split his hand open on the 50free final finish), Zimbabwean World Championship female swimmers namely Kirsten Lapham & Maxine Heard, Paralympian Emily Gray who is showing great form in training, disabled newcomer Werner Botes coming off the back of a great SA schools, and many more young swimmers who will be here to take the next step in their swimming careers.

Hopefully our pool based swimmers can feed off the success achieved yesterday (10 April) by our five Open Water competitors who represented NTS with pride at the Midmar Dam in the Open water Nationals where we have so far had confirmation of four medals for the four swimmers, namely Tyron Venter, Karlien Van Heerden (who is showing exciting form in training, with her returning to Senior Nationals this year after unfortunately missing last year), Albert Van Dyk and Dirk van der Bank (waiting for final confirmation of results).

So all in all, all the best to our swimmers as they represent Tuks and their province, NTS with pride.
