South Africa will know later on Monday (17 August) if 18-year-old wonder woman Caster Semenya will be the first Tukkie athlete to reach a final at the 12th IAAF World Championships in the German capital of Berlin.
Semenya won her heat in 2:02.51 despite losing her balance in the final straight after colliding with defending world champion Janeth Jepkosgei Busienei of Kenya.
After Jepkosgei fell to the ground, Semenya dropped to fifth place before regaining her balance and, thanks to an amazing burst of powerful running, still managed to finish first.
Jepkosgei completed the race in seventh position, but after appealing she was given the green light to take part in the semi-finals.
