He ran a Personal Best time of 45.61s at the Provincial Championships, beating Willie de Beer, also clocking a PB of 46.12s and SA Junior champion, Jacques de Swardt (46.55s).
“One of the best nights of my life. Ran a 45.61s 400m Olympic Qualifying time and fastest time in South Africa. God is Good. Thanks to everyone who has supported and believed in me in my quest to 2012 Olympics. One step closer. I am hungry for it,” wrote Oscar on Twitter.
Oscars personal best was 46.02s prior to yesterday’s performance. The qualifying standard set for the World Championships in August later this year is 45.25s (A standard) and 45.70s (B standard).
If selected by for the Olympic Games, the man who runs with two prosthetic limbs and carbon fibre blades will become the first amputee sprinter ever to compete at the Olympic Games.
Other highlights of the evening were:
♦ 100m H for women where the all the medal winners ran a sub 14 seconds; Rikenette Steenkamp (13.62s), Erika Kleinhans (13.80s) and Claudia Viljoen (13.89s).
♦ Estie Wittstock winning the 400m for women in 52.68s;
♦ Roelie Potgieter getting a season best of 19.19m in the shot put for men.
Tuks Athletes won 30 of the 36 gold medals, 26 silver and 19 bronze.
