Earlier in the day, the 4 x 400m men quartet, where 2 of athletes from Tuks, Willie de Beer and Oscar Pretorius were team members, qualified for the final of this event. The team also became the 1st South African team ever to run under 3 minutes when they bettered the South African record with a time of 2:59.21. The final of this event will take place on Saturday.
Caster Semenya also advanced to the semi-finals of the 800m with a time of 2:01.01 when she finished 2nd in the 4th heat.
