UP Arts presents: Two of Pretoria's best-loved choirs in concert in the Musaion!

They are under the direction of sought-after conductor Christo Burger.  The concert will take place on Saturday, 27 August 2011 at 19:00.

The concert will take place in the Musaion, on UP’s Hatfield Campus. Tickets are available at Computicket at R80 for adults and R60 for pensioners, students and scholars.  See www.computicket.com.

Christo Burger is regarded as one of South Africa’s foremost conductors. Christo (*1978) was born in Kempton Park and was a member of the University of Pretoria Camerata from 1997 to 2003. During his studies at the University of Pretoria, he obtained the degrees BMus, BMusHons (Performing Arts) cum laude as well as MMus (Performing Arts).

 

Both choirs have received numerous national and international accolades through the years.

Akustika Chamber Singers was established in December 2005 by its current conductor, Christo Burger. Under his direction the Akustika Chamber Singers won the award for “Choir of the World” at the 62nd Llangollen International Music Eisteddfod in Wales, UK in 2008.

In 2010, Akustika Chamber Singers was the category winner, as well as the Grande Premio (overall) winner at the Concorso Corale Internazionale competition in Riva del Garda, Italy.

Tuks Camerata was established in 1968 and has built up a rich tradition through the years. Tuks Camerata won first place in the Jazz and Pop category at the 46th CA Seghizzi International Choral Competition at Gorizia, Italy, during 2007. In 2010, Tuks Camerata won the award for Best Adult Mixed Choir at the V Bratislava Advent and Christmas Music Festival, under the direction of Christo Burger.
