Journey to the planets with the UP Symphony Orchestra

Posted on May 11, 2012

Gustav Holst’s Planets will start the journey through the solar system and cosmos. A cinematic extravaganza created by John Walton will accompany the performance to create an unforgettable experience.

Revel with Jupiter, the bringer of jollity, fight intergalactic battles with Mars, the bringer of war, savour the sweet peace that radiates from Venus, or be dazzled by the mystical beauty of Neptune. The Magaliesberg Children’s Choir, skilfully trained by their conductor, Hannelie van Sittert will join the University of Pretoria Symphony Orchestra to end this magnificent work.

As the evening ventures further into the realm of space, an exciting musical universe derived from the epic motion picture series, Star Wars, music composed by John Williams, will emanate from the stage.

Hop aboard Hans Solo’s Millennium Falcon and experience the triumphant fanfare of the main theme, through to Princess Leia’s theme and the menacing Imperial March.  An aural feast will portray this larger than life narrative of young Skywalker, bent on saving the universe.  A visual surprise also awaits the audience to heighten this stellar roller coaster.

The programme is presented under the baton of Eric Rycroft and is a once-off performance. Tickets are available at the door at R100.00 for adults and R60.00 for students and pensioners. For further information, contact 012 420 4183/2614 or email [email protected].
