JCP 2008 Projects expo

 The expo is known as the JCP-Swank and provides the opportunity for the students to share their completed projects.

The expo was attended by amongst others the Dean of the Faculty, Prof Roelf Sandenbergh, the Director for Community Engagement, Prof Hendricks, and the Vice Principal for Community Engagement, Prof. Mogotlane. In their short speeches Prof Sandenbergh highlighted the importance of the module while Prof Mogotlane emphasized the contribution of the module to the development of the JCP students in becoming well-rounded, responsible, productive students through their engagement in the communities. Prof Sandenbergh also thanked the lecturer, Dr Jordaan and the students for their contributions in making the module a success.

The Dinaledi Project students

This year 1616 students enrolled in the module. The students undertook 482 different projects. Projects varied form assisting with maths, making web sites for communities and renovating rooms at children’s homes.  Students have to work at least 40 hours in the community and then reflect on their experiences.  Reports of the students in the form of a blog can be viewed at http:/blogs.up.ac.za, link JCP2008.
