Students from the Department of Construction Economics do as part of their compulsory undergraduate course, Community-Based Project Module, their fieldwork at theViva- and Beraka site in Mamelodi. This is already the third year that students enrolled in the module are working on the site. Students from previous years constructed and built a building. This year students have started to design and built a bridge from one side of the Viva terrain to the other. Maricia Schoeman, one of the students reported: "This is a very worthwhile and learning experience and in the process we are assisting the community".
