During 2011, 1592 students within the Faculty of Engineering, Built Environment & Information Technology enrolled for the JCP-module.  These students worked in 543 different community sites. Each student had to work at least 40 hours in the community and thereafter reflect on their experiences. This means that more than 63 680 hours were spent in the communities to address various needs within the communities. The projects differ from supporting maths and science classes in schools, computer training for community members, renovation projects, enrichment projects for animals in the zoo's and websites for non-profit organisations.  The unique characteristic of the module is apparent not only in the sustainability of the projects but also in the impact that the module has made on the communities and students involved as evident in the reflection of the students. 

Projects were undertaken in South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Mozambique Lesotho and Swaziland.
