The Department is proud to announce that the following people received awards at the prize-giving ceremony: 

1.      Nadia Ibraimo - SASHS Award for best presentation by a PhD student,

SASHS Award for the best presentation in the open category, and

SASHS Award for the best student presentation (a travel award to the value of R10 000 to attend an international horticultural conference (preferably an ISHS-sanctioned event).

2.      Wendy Malatji - Syngenta Award for best student presentation by a SAWSS member.

3.      Sietske van Tol  - Daan F Retief award of the for best paper by a SASCP member under the age of 40 years.

4.      Ryan Rossler - Omnia Nutriology Award for second best student presentation at the Congress (across all foursocieties).

5.      Telesphore Ndabamenyea (John Annandale and Robin Barnard, co-authors) - SASHS Award for best paper published in a peer-reviewed journal (Field Crops Research) during the period June 2011 - June 2012.

6.      Dr Diana Marais became a Fellow of the SASCP in recognition of her long-standing service to the society.

7.      Elbé Hugo - SAWSS Award for best paper presented in the field of weed science.

8.      Garry Paterson (Robin Barnard, co-author) - best paper in SA Journal of Plant and Soil for 2011.
