"The Witches" ultimately demonstrates how children's active participation in social networks can help good triumph over evil. Dahl's work is very popular with young audiences in South Africa and abroad, and stand as some of the best examples of children's literature. For second-language English speakers, the play has the added bonus of assisting children to engage with language-learning in an active, participatory and visual manner. The adaptations of Dahl's original texts to the stage are done by David Woods, who has won world-wide acclaim for his adaptations of Dahl's work.
A message from David Woods:
"I was delighted to hear that the drama students of the University of Pretoria were performing my adaptation of Roald Dahl's THE WITCHES, one of his most exciting and appealing stories. ... When I directed the original production, on tour throughout the UK and in London's West End, I really enjoyed bringing the story from page to stage, and witnessing large audiences of children - and adults! - reacting with delight and horror in equal measure! ... I am sure the audiences are in for a magical, spooky and ultimately uplifting experience! With all good wishes."
"The Witches" is a must-see that will charm young and old audiences with its striking visual imagery and interactive approach to the play.
