This applied theatre project aims at creating greater awareness around issues related to the protection of natural resoures – with specific reference to water. Providing knowledge and information around these issues are some of the first stepping stones towards developing personal responsibiity in this regard and to realise what the potential impact of a lack of (or lack of usable) natural resources like water, can be.

The productions will start their runs the week before the Aardklop National Arts festival kicks off and finish heir runs on the 7th of October. The productions will tour to schools and community organisations in the Tlokwe, Matlosana and Merafong areas. There are currently four shows scheduled per day. Honours students specialising in Applied drama/theatre take part in the productions together with students from the second year group.

The productions are participatory and were collectively devised by the students and the directors- based on a brief from AngoGold Ashanti and on discussions with specialists from AngloGold Ashanti’s environmental management unit. They form part of the Aardklop National Arts Festival and AngloGold Ashanti’s community engagement programmes.

The Drama Department is honoured to work on a project with such distinguished partners.
