New unit offers help to many

The Department of Communication Pathology, University of Pretoria is proud to launch the first Tinnitus Therapy Unit to be introduced at an academic institution in South Africa. 
 
Tinnitus is a medical term for an auditory perception not produced by an external sound. It is commonly described as a ringing, hissing or roaring noise and can range from low to high pitch sounds. Tinnitus is REAL and affects millions of people world-wide. Approximately 17% of the total population experience tinnitus, while up to 4% of the total population report feeling debilitated by this symptom.
 
The Tinnitus Therapy Unit at the Department of Communication Pathology has been initiated to address this widespread problem which affect thousands of South Africans. The unit offers a comprehensive assessment and intervention programme for people suffering from tinnitus.
