Vuvuzela noise exposure at PSL soccer match

Posted on November 20, 2009

article on the dangerous loudness levels of the Vuvuzela drew a lot of controversial reaction.

Sensitive tests of auditory functioning were conducted before and after the game to measure any temporary shifts in hearing ability or auditory functioning due to the noise exposure during the match. Each subject also wore a personal noise measurement device which documents the personal noise exposure during the match for each subject.

The results are currently being analysed and a summary of the findings will be posted as soon as all analyses are completed. There has been a reigning controversy over the loudness of the Vuvuzela since the Confederations Cup earlier in 2009. It has been in the spotlight once again with Japan's soccer team complaining to FIFA about its loudness after the recent contest against Bafana Bafana.
