Tydskrif vir Letterkunde turns 75!

Posted on September 23, 2011

Among the guests were Hennie Stander, Jeanette Ferreira, Willie Burger, Fransjohan Pretorius, Renée Marais, Tienie du Plessis and Vic Webb. Hein Willemse, current editor of the Tydskrif and previous editors Henning Pieterse and Henriëtte Roos all shared their memories and experiences regarding the publication.

Adrienne Warricker of Library Services together with Jan Stander, Gerard de Kamper, Nola Doré and Marie Coetzee organized an exhibition for the occasion. The exhibition included busts of C.M. van den Heever, Totius, A.D. Keet and Uys Krige. Copies of the Tydskrif from 1936 to present and even Eugène Marais’ typewriter were also included. The exhibition and speeches indicated the growth that the Tydskrif has undergone during the last 75 years to become the international publication it is today.

The evening was a huge success and it appears that there is still an enormous amount of interest in the Tydskrif vir Letterkunde. Henriëtte Roos appropriately remarked that there are very few 75 year olds that can face the future with such a positive attitude.
