Posted on September 04, 2008

Dr Emmambux was nominated by the South African Association of Food Science and Technology (SAAFoST). As one of seven recipients of the award, Dr Emmambux will be given the opportunity to render an oral presentation on his research following a plenary session at the congress. The congress is to take place from 19 – 23 October 2008, Shanghai, China.

“I am honored to have been chosen to represent the Department of Food Science, University of Pretoria and the nation at large. Young scientists need to realize that there are also opportunities available for them to render oral presentations to large captive audiences. Opportunities are there, but they must be willing to work hard,” says Dr Emmambux

He is also a member of SAAFoST, the Association for Food Scientists, Technologists and other Professionals serving the food and allied industries in South Africa. Dr Emmambux’s fields of expertise include chemistry, rheology and spectroscopy of food biopolymers.

According to Dr Emmambux, research is a collaborative effort which involves a dedicated team working together. “Research cannot exist in isolation. Aspiring researchers need to be able to work as part of a team with mentors, colleagues and students to contribute to the bigger picture. They must work hard and maximize each opportunity,” concludes Dr Emmambux.
