“The Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences is arguably one of the most influential science faculties in the country and Africa at large. The two Deputy Deans are strategically located to put the faculty on an even higher trajectory. It is a pleasure and privilege to announce the appointment of Prof Johann Engelbrecht and Prof Brenda Wingfield as the new Deputy Deans,” says Prof Ströh.
According to Prof Ströh, Prof Wingfield will be responsible for the Research and Post Graduate Studies portfolio and Prof Engelbrecht will take up the Teaching, Learning and the Community Engagement portfolio.
“I am grateful for the opportunity and the support received thus far. This is an exciting challenge and I welcome the opportunity to be part of this faculty’s growth from “good to great. The speakers before me were right in stating that this Faculty is one with skills, potential and determination to strive ahead. Working together we can further the Faculty’s focus on excellence,” said Prof Wingfield in her acceptance speech.
Prof Engelbrecht was not in the country and could therefore not attend the ceremony but in a statement after his return he said that he will strive to optimise the balance between reality – “teaching the students we have and not those we wish we had” - and international competitiveness.
Prof Engelbrecht will be responsible for the Teaching, Learning and the Community Engagement portfolio
