The top 10 grade 9 learners from each school were invited to attend the Faculty Day and take part in the activities organised by the Faculty. The following schools were represented: Afrikaans Hoër Seuns, Afrikaans Hoër Meisies, Garsfontein Hoërskool, Cornerstone College, Phateng Secondary School, Tshwane Muslim School, Eldoraigne Hoërskool, Waterkloof Hoërskool, Crawford College and Pretoria High School for Girls.
Professor Anton Ströh, Dean of the Faculty, welcomed them and they were introduced to the admission requirements for the various possible academic courses within the Faculty. The learners were also treated to exhibitions in the Rautenbach hall and a performance by the Vividus Male Serenade Group. A Junior Tukkie information session was held, as these learners were also to be included in the Junior Tukkie Programme. The day was concluded with a picnic.
This was the first Faculty Day for Grade 9 learners. The aim was to see whether it could be introduced as an annual event in future. The Faculty believes in the importance of exposing the learners to their future study and career options before they make their subject selections for grade 10. Everybody agreed that the event had been successful as well as meaningful to all the role players. The learners enjoyed it tremendously and felt privileged to participate in this day.
The Faculty Day proved to be a great launch for many such events in the future.
