These sentiments were shared by the Dean of the Faculty, Prof Anton Ströh, at the official opening of the UP LabWorld Food Research Laboratory on 18 November 2010.
Prof Ströh emphasised that partnerships are crucial to ensure that research is not done in silos, but have a meaningful impact on national and international level. He also thanked LabWorld, who sponsored nearly R2 million of the total cost of the equipment and facilities (R4,6 million), for supporting the research endeavours in the Faculty, and especially in the Department of Food Sciences.
Two academic staff members in the Department of Food Science, Dr Gyebi Duodu and Dr Naushad Emmambux also did a presentation to highlight the research done in the Department and to explain how the laboratory will help the Department of Food Science to move its research forward.
Guests also had the opportunity to visit the laboratory and experience first-hand how the equipment works.
