Dr Hormats visited South Africa last year with Hillary Clinton, and it really impressed him that the US needed to get involved and help in some way. The aim of the discussion was to address the larger issue of wildlife trafficking and its connections to international criminal syndicates, and how high-level political will is needed to stop them. It is hoped that Hormats’s presence will get the policy makers to the table to discuss what is needed at an international level to help fight the problem and how the US can help.
