The Association is being conceived of as a loosely woven constellation or assemblage, an associating that weaves in and out of other organizations, groups, associations, clusters, institutions, and individuals, consolidating existing activities, and initiating new ones. The Association plans to ‘wear’ its ‘international’ designation in a non-homogenizing and non-incorporative way. It will be public facing, and, at the same time, look to strengthen visual culture in the context of universities, art schools, and cultural institutions. It plans to lobby, to put pressure on academia, the culture sector, and funding bodies on behalf of visual culture, and Visual Culture as a field of inquiry. NYU will be hosting the Association’s biennial conference in New York in 2012.
