The full Senate Hall attested to the interest by people from a variety of spheres which Prof Bornman’s work has attracted over the years. Researchers and academics from a variety of fields, stakeholders in the disability arena, people using AAC, as well as friends and family all left enlightened, uplifted and with much food for thought. Prof Bornman managed to convey not only her in-depth knowledge of the field, but also her passion and commitment to give access to communication to those who are often seen as unable to speak up for themselves. Her address was described as interesting, educational, and thought-provoking, challenging, life changing and eye-opening by various audience members.
