Over the past 18 years, the Mail & Guardian has made a point of profiling the transformative work done by women in leading conversations about their empowerment in its Power of Women annual flagship.
These women can be found in offices, homes, in rural and urban communities, in business, finance, civil society, government, healthcare, agriculture, communications and transport. They are leading the charge towards economic freedom and formulating policy to advance gender equality. They set the pace in leadership, participate actively in the growth of their communities and take on multi-dimensional roles, using skills that provide sustainable livelihoods for South Africa’s people.
This year, the Mail & Guardian wants to continue to empower, uplift and support women in their various industries and also reflect on the progress the country has made in the transformation of women. The Mail & Guardian Power of Women is an annual showcase of South Africa’s women frontrunners. It is an initiative that honours exemplary South African women by recognising their professional achievements. The Mail & Guardian continues to amplify the contributions of exceptional South African women in the growth and development of the nation. The 2024 theme is “Celebrating 30 years of Women Empowerment.”
