The Department of Institutional Planning (DIP) is excited to announce that the Institutional Research and Analytics (IRA) Unit is utilising the SMAX system for all data-related enquiries, effective from the first week of May 2024. This new system is in line with the University of Pretoria’s (UP) Digital Transformation Strategy, which is designed to streamline communication and enhance service delivery.

The importance of SMAX

Implementing the IRA-SMAX system is crucial for enhancing the DIP’s operational efficiency. The system centralises query management into a single, accessible platform, ensuring that all enquiries are handled promptly and efficiently. This consolidation will not only expedite response times but also significantly improve the overall service delivery and user experience, making it easier for UP staff to receive the support they need.

Navigating the system

To access the IRA-SMAX system, simply log onto the SMAX service portal on the UP intranet. Once logged in, click on the IRA (Institutional Research and Analytics) tile to find the request options, where you can submit and manage your queries. Services provided by the IRA that can be requested using the platform include PowerHEDA access or training, student information, staff information, university rankings, market research survey reports, UP planning and performance reports, and other institutional data. 

Your cooperation is essential for the successful implementation of this new system. We encourage all UP staff members to start logging data-related queries through the IRA-SMAX system.
