Good luck for the second semester exams – Message from the Interim Vice-Chancellor and Principal

Posted on November 08, 2023

Dear UP students,

I understand that the past year has been both rewarding and challenging for some of our students. As we approach the final exams of the year, I wish you the best of luck as you navigate this final stretch of 2023. Your dedication and perseverance will undoubtedly lead to your success.

Our excellent teaching and learning model provides you with all the resources you need on clickUP for your convenience. You can review and reinforce your knowledge at your own pace before exams. To excel academically throughout the semester, it's essential to prepare before class, actively engage during class, and review what you've learned. This approach will help you maintain a strong module grade and stay on top of your assessments. If, for any reason, your module grade falls short of your expectations, you can still perform well in your exams to boost your overall mark.

I'd like to encourage all students to not only focus on their studies during the exam period but also prioritise self-care. It's important to maintain discipline by creating a study plan and sticking to it. Make sure to create a comfortable study environment at home and on campus. Manage your time wisely, and ensure you get enough rest. This will help you concentrate better while preparing for, and taking your exams. Keep in mind that effective preparation involves thoughtful time management, so take the time to plan and organise your schedule efficiently.

I would also like to emphasise the serious consequences of dishonesty in online assignments and tests. Cheating can lead to criminal charges, disbarment from professional organisations, and degree revocation. Examinations gauge your progress, so focus on consistent, honest effort throughout the semester to ensure a strong module mark. It's better to perform honestly, even if it means a lower grade, than to cheat and miss out on genuine understanding and application of knowledge. I urge all students to commit to conducting yourselves with honesty and ethics that are hallmarks of THE UP WAY of life.

Examinations bring their own stresses and if you feel overwhelmed or anxious, just remember that you are not alone. You can speak to a friend, family, a tutor, a lecturer, a Faculty Student Advisor, or your residence parents. I also encourage you to make use of our mental health services if you need emotional support. Please call 0800 747 747 or, if you want someone to call you back, send an SMS to 31393.

Give it your all, put in the effort to make today matter, and stay focused on reaching your goals.

In addition to your dedication and thorough preparations, I wish you the best of luck!

Kind regards,

Professor Themba Mosia
