This Heritage Month, the Javett Art Centre at the University of Pretoria (Javett-UP) is delighted to announce complimentary admission to the public from 19 to 24 September 2023. This remarkable offer provides an opportunity for art enthusiasts, families, and the wider community to relish select galleries while essential maintenance work is underway at the Art Centre.
Since May of this year, we have been engaged in a seamless construction project aimed at enhancing our facilities and improving the overall visitor experience. This initiative will transform the centre into a hub for art, lifestyle, and entertainment, allowing us to offer a diverse range of products and experiences to a broad audience. We anticipate completing this construction project by late October 2023. We appreciate your understanding and look forward to welcoming you to our improved and expanded facilities.
Despite the ongoing renovations and maintenance efforts, visitors will have the opportunity to access a curated selection of exhibitions and programming at no cost during the upcoming week. This ensures that the world of art remains open and enjoyable to all. Exhibitions available for viewing include Another Roadmap Africa Cluster, Oscar Murillo: Frequencies, Specifications for a Reverse Archaeology, and One is But a Shadow of the Other.
Admission times:
During this week, final preparations will be underway for the highly anticipated Art Bank South Africa Collection exhibition, which is scheduled to debut on Saturday, 23 September 2023. We extend an invitation to everyone to seize this distinctive opportunity to immerse themselves in these exhibitions.
Please note that from 19 to 22 September 2023, certain areas of the Javett Art Centre will be temporarily inaccessible. Our priority is the safety and well-being of our visitors. We kindly request that all visitors adhere to the on-site safety measures by following the established protocols. These areas include the Bridge Gallery, which connects the centre to the Hatfield campus and the Gold Tower Gallery, where our iconic exhibitions, "The National Treasures: The Mapungubwe Gold Collection" and "The AngloGold Ashanti Barbier-Mueller Gold of Africa Collection," are currently on display.
Visitors will only be able to access these two exhibitions from Saturday, 23 September 2023.
