WORLD BEE DAY: 'Bee engaged in pollinator-friendly agricultural production'

Posted on May 20, 2023

On World Bee Day, 20 May 2023, Dr Tiwonge Mzumara-Gawa, a research fellow with the FSNet-Africa Project at the Centre for the Advancement of Scholarship, speaks about her research project on "Birds, Insects, and crop interaction between subsistence farms and macadamia orchards in Malawi".

In her project, Dr Mzumara-Gawa investigates the diversity of insect pollinators and birds as pest predators on macadamia farms and the subsistence farms on the periphery of these macadamia farms. The aim of the research is to improve the quantity and quality of the yield of traditional animal-pollinated crops and to inform policy efforts aimed at increasing macadamia yields.

You can watch her discuss her project and how it links to World Bee Day below or on the FSNet-Africa website

Dr Mzumara-Gawa is a lecturer in the Biological Sciences Department at the Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST), Malawi.
