The Special Collections Book of the Week this week is:
Bullets or Ballots? The ultimate solution to crime and unemployment in South Africa by Ruben Richards
Crime and growing unemployment remain the Achilles heel of the new South. The apartheid government refused to fix it. The democratic government seems incapable of doing so. South Africa has shifted from being a country of state-sponsored terrorism to a democratic state and government-sponsored educational and economic dysfunctionality. Whether this is the result of an apartheid legacy or the incompetence of the current ruling class is irrelevant. If ordinary South Africans don’t collectively join hands to fight the scourge of crime and unemployment and ultimately poverty, then we might as well concede defeat now.
