Due to the increased risk of electricity grid failure and the unstable power supply in South Africa, the insurers of the University have informed us that they will not cover any loss, damage or expense directly or indirectly caused by any Electricity Grid Failure.
An “Electricity Grid Failure” includes a total or partial interruption of electricity supply, suspensions to power supply and power surges caused by the reconnection of electricity supply often caused by loadshedding. Therefore, any damage to insured University assets caused by loadshedding will not be covered by the University’s insurance policy. You are advised to make suitable arrangements to protect key equipment to mitigate the risk of damage.
This exclusion will be effective on 1 April 2023
